A simple and important measure to prevent nosocomial infection is washing the hands. In August, 1999,we carried out a questionnaire survey to evaluate the present status of hand washing among head cleaner in charge of hospital cleaning contraction, who not only are engaged in cleaning but also give instructions to other cleaners, and to clarify factors that promote hand washing. Effective replies were obtained in 134 (92.4%) of 145 head cleaners. The following results were obtained. (1)The head cleaners are aware that they should protect themselves from infections but do not always perform hand washing. (2)Of the head cleaners, 77.6% had never received hand washing education. (3)Whether the head cleaners wash their hands at the end of work was significantly related to the Japanese health locus of control (JHLC) Internal score (p<0.05). To prevent infection, hand washing education for head cleaners in charge of hospital cleaning contraction should be urgently evaluated, and hand washing should be promoted.}, pages = {55--61}, title = {感染防止のための手洗いに関する病院清掃受託責任者の意識・行動について}, volume = {1}, year = {2001} }
