Mountain sickness develops in human being who cannot adapt itself during high-altitude mountain climbing. For high-altitude hypoxia, compensation called hyperventilation happens. Hypoxic pulmonary vasoconstriction in general anesthesia with one-lung ventilation for lung surgery is one of mechanisms to improve hypoxia, however, it worsens hypoxia at high-altitude.
