| 内容記述 | In Japan, reservoirs were built from the 8th century to the first half of the 20th century to cater to the demand from the spread of rice cultivation. The responsibility of maintaining these reservoirs rests with the farmers living in the zones where the reservoirs are located. The role and spread of these reservoirs has changed remarkably in recent times owing to the decline in agriculture and increasing urbanization. The Conference for the Preservation of Reservoir Biodiversity in Nagoya, which was established by the city office and several civic organizations, with support from the Japanese Ministry of Environment, studied the biodiversity of these reservoirs and discussed the removal of exotic species from nine ponds in the city. | |||||||
